Canada’s Global TV Purchases Four Kahuna SD/HD Multiformat Production Switchers for Countrywide HD News Launch

Snell & Wilcox today announced that Global TV, one of Canada's largest broadcasters, has implemented four Kahuna SD/HD multiformat production switchers for the rollout of high-definition (HD) news broadcasts at ten of the network's local affiliates throughout Canada. The Kahuna switchers are playing a unique and critical role in the digital/HDTV launch by enabling Global TV to implement a "virtual set" strategy that utilizes local talent, and yet centralizes production of the news shows at three of its four regional broadcasting centers.

Sony launches ‘Freeview HD’-ready LCD TV line

With the UK launch of terrestrial HD pencilled in for 2009, Sony has jumped onto the bandwagon and unveiled a Bravia LCD TV series featuring an integrated MPEG 4 AVC HD-capable tuner. HD DVD sales still solid despite format’s failure

Toshiba may have canned production of HD DVD hardware, but that didn't stop US consumers buying into the format last month, new market stats reveal. According to US market watcher Redhill, 81 per cent of the next-generation optical disc players bought by Americans were Blu-ray Disc machines. That means 19 per cent of them used the rival format.
