Canada’s Global TV Purchases Four Kahuna SD/HD Multiformat Production Switchers for Countrywide HD News Launch

Snell & Wilcox today announced that Global TV, one of Canada's largest broadcasters, has implemented four Kahuna SD/HD multiformat production switchers for the rollout of high-definition (HD) news broadcasts at ten of the network's local affiliates throughout Canada. The Kahuna switchers are playing a unique and critical role in the digital/HDTV launch by enabling Global TV to implement a "virtual set" strategy that utilizes local talent, and yet centralizes production of the news shows at three of its four regional broadcasting centers.

After Winning The DVD Format War, Blu-Ray Sales Tank

Blu-ray may have won the high-definition format war, but sales of its high-definition DVDs and players have tanked. A report from ABI Research notes that it's been one quarter since HD DVD lost the high-definition format war to Blu-ray, and the market has absorbed the consequent impacts.

Sony launches ‘Freeview HD’-ready LCD TV line

With the UK launch of terrestrial HD pencilled in for 2009, Sony has jumped onto the bandwagon and unveiled a Bravia LCD TV series featuring an integrated MPEG 4 AVC HD-capable tuner. The 26in, 32in and 37in models in the V4500 series each have one of the tuners that let you watch HD TV programmes over Freeview – a service that will roll out first in the Granada region next year and across all of England by 2012.

Report: Blu-ray Too Expensive, The Old HD DVD Works Just Fine!

How does it feel to be the last one standing in a market that used to be a battlefield of the formats – HD DVD v. Blu-ray? Not so good, according to the latest report from NPD Group on Blu-ray standalone player sales, which showed a 40 percent drop in sales from January to February in the U.S., and a mere 2 percent increase in sales from February to March.

Panasonic TC-37LZ85 Viera: 37 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV: improve your viewing

The Panasonic TC 37LZ85 is a 37 Inch LCD TV from the Viera range and is aimed at the mid-price market. As this TV is Full HD at 1080p pictures are much sharper and more realistic than a HD Ready television, but this is only possible if the source is HD as well. There are a few great features on the Panasonic Viera TC-37LZ85 that help to make the TV perform better than many other TV’s in the same price range. However; the TV does have a few flaws one of these is its digital comb filter, some TV’s that are cheaper have a better version.

HD DVD sales still solid despite format’s failure

Toshiba may have canned production of HD DVD hardware, but that didn't stop US consumers buying into the format last month, new market stats reveal. According to US market watcher Redhill, 81 per cent of the next-generation optical disc players bought by Americans were Blu-ray Disc machines. That means 19 per cent of them used the rival format.
